Five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers gave a lot of praise to fellow stars Manu Ginobili and Russell Westbrook on Friday night. Bryant believes he shares some similarities with Westbrook and Ginobili regarding how they approach the game.
Following the loss to the San Antonio Spurs, Bryant talked was asked about his tempo. Kobe said Ginobili and Westbrook share the same approach on the basketball floor:
Man, myself, Westbrook, we all play with that very, very high, high motor,” Bryant said. “That’s what we were born with. It must have driven our parents crazy.”
Much like Bryant, Ginobili has been able to stand the test of time. The veteran guard continues to play at a high level after 13 seasons with the Spurs at 38-years-old. Although Ginobili is averaging his lowest point total since his rookie season in 2002-03 at 10.3, the four-time NBA champion still plays a significant role for San Antonio and could be well on his way to matching Bryant’s total of five titles.
Kobe also went into a bit more detail about Ginobili and how impressed he was by the Argentine product after playing against him for the first time in the NBA:
First time I played against him, he shocked the hell out of me. His competitiveness and his energy and his moves. It’s extremely impressive. He went on and is having an amazing career.”
Ginobili led all scorers on Friday night with an efficient performance for the Spurs. The veteran led the way for San Antonio with a game-high 20 points on 9-of-10 shooting. Ginobili also added five steals, four assists and four rebounds to his credit in the win over the Lakers.
The Spurs improved to 38-6 on the season while the Lakers dropped to 9-36 with Los Angeles suffering their 15th loss at home.
